Exclusive: Angelo Lozano's new video
From tubes the size of a house to aerials in half-meter waves. Don't miss it!
Angelo Lozano's 2018 was very productive and varied, full of heavy tubes in Puerto and relaxed waves in different places along the Mexican coast.
With this natural talent, the Puerto Rican stands on tubes the size of a house and flies in waves half a metre high. You can see everything in the video.
In the short interview that follows, he shares everything seen in the video.
What would you say people will be able to see in your new video?
Some of my best waves filmed from last year and a surf trip to Acapulco.
What was your favorite part?
The first tube and the maneuvering part.
Why did you choose that song? Can you relate to it?
I heard that song for the first time on a surf trip to Costa Rica a couple of years ago and I loved it, because of the vibe, the energy, the rhythm, and because it talks about how great it is to surf.
Then in Puerto, last year I met Gabriel, or Pensador, who is a good surfer as well as a tremendous artist, he is the one who sings it and we became friends.
You seem very selective when you're out on the water on those big days, is that right? Do you wait a long time for the right one or do you just go with the flow?
If a good wave comes and I'm in position, I go. But it has to be really good. Like that first wave in the video, it came to me after 30 minutes and then I got out. Sometimes it takes three hours and other times it never comes.
Of the waves seen in the video, which one did you enjoy the most?
The first one.
Which one scared you the most?
The left-hand closure of the tournament.
Which one hit you the worst?
That one too.
There are a couple of lonely paradises you visited for the filming of the movie, right?
Yes, we surfed a slab that looked a bit like Pipeline, one of the island's secret spots.
How much is left to discover on the Mexican coast?
There are certainly plenty of spots, much of the Mexican coast is uninhabited and difficult to access, so there must be good waves in those places.
How did you make the jump from being a more QS-profile surfer to riding big waves in Puerto?
I wanted to take a break from so many tournaments and give myself the opportunity to make the most of what I had at home.
What do you see yourself doing in the next few years?
The same thing I've been doing until now and better.
What do you see yourself doing in 30 years?
Traveling, surfing, sharing and enjoying my family..
