Pipe veteran Koa Rothman also got injured on the wave

He suffered facial injuries and had to be assisted by lifeguards.

One of Pipe's most experienced surfers today, Koa Rothman, was injured surfing the wave a couple of days ago, The Inertia reported.

According to a video posted on Instagram, the Hawaiian stuck his tip in, missed the drop and hit his face against the reef, suffering superficial injuries and having to be helped out of the water by lifeguards.

“I want to update everyone, I’m doing great. Thank you for the support and love. A huge thank you to Luke Shepardson and I don’t know who the other person on the jet ski was and to the North Shore Lifeguard Association for saving me (…) I’ll be back soon,” Koa concluded.

Koa's hit adds to a less publicized one by Eli Olson and those seen by Joaquín del Castillo, Eimeo Czermak, Chumbinho Chinca and Bettylou Sakura Johnson.

It's been a particularly eventful season at Pipe.
