February and Picklum lead the Pipe Masters after the first day of competition

With one round still to go, the finals would be closed by John John, Benji Brand and Seth Moniz in men and Moana Jones, Frankie Harrer and Carissa Moore in women.

Michael February and Molly Picklum finished in the lead at the Pipe Masters on Day 1, which took place yesterday, Saturday, in solid 6- to 8-foot waves.

According to the format, of the 60 men competing and the 20 women, four advance to the grand final after going to the competition three times and trying to add up the highest combined score possible from three waves surfed by three judges.

For some unexplained reason, all the scores given by the judges are added up and the maximum possible is 30 per wave and 90 when round 1 is completed.

Thus, after two rounds of the event, the final section has, in addition to February and Picklum, John John Florence, Benji Brand and Seth Moniz among the men and Moana Jones, Frankie Harrer and Carissa Moore among the women.

With one round left before the final, which awards $420.000 in equal payouts, the rankings are as follows:
