Felipe Pomar goes for Molokai 2 Oahu

He will cross 50 kilometers between one Hawaiian island and another to become the oldest person to complete the challenging race.

Legendary Peruvian surfer Felipe Pomar, world champion in 1965, announced that next year, when he will be 76, he will take part in the most demanding SUP and Paddleboard race in the world, the Molokai 2 Oahu, which links the Hawaiian islands of the same name.

The race takes place in July of each year and brings together the most respected SUPers and Paddleboarders on the planet who must travel the 50 kilometres that separate the two islands.

According to Pomar, based on what the legendary Mike Takahashi told him, he and his partner and friend Tom Woods would become the oldest surfers to complete the race. According to Pomar's Facebook post, his idea is to run it in tandem (team) mode.

From Bali, Pomar wrote that after completing the longest walk of his life on the island of the gods, he made the decision: “I confirmed my decision to do the race next year, God willing.”

Pomar also explained that along with several of his friends, some legends like Mr. Sunset and Jeff Hakman are part of the “surfing until 100 years old” program, with which they do and will do surfing retreats in remote places to surf and have a good time.

“Veterans rule!” the 1965 world champion concluded his message.
