The Peruvian surfing federation denied Sofía Mulanovich's request to be a member of the Peruvian team traveling to the 2021 World Cup in El Salvador, arguing that the pandemic makes it necessary to review the athletes, noting that performance may change between 2019 and 2021, according to a leaked letter sent to the world champion that was published by Peruvian specialist journalist Michel Romero on his social networks.

“More than a year has passed since the sporting result (…) and in that sense the conditions of 2019 and what was expected for the 2020 Olympics are or could be different, as well as those of the other participating athletes who could have options to qualify for Tokyo 2020,” the letter states.

And he added: “It is fair and appropriate, and in order to guarantee the principles mentioned above, to submit a pre-selection to determine the current technical condition of all the athletes, especially if some of them obtained a victory over the athlete Sofía Mulanovich in the sporting event held in the last quarter of 2020 called Copa Gordo Barreda.”

The letter does not mention whether Mesinas and Rosas will participate in this pre-selection, nor does it mention that on previous occasions the FENTA authorities indicated that they were using the ISA regulations to determine that Mulanovich must participate in the selection.

He ends by telling Mulanovich that he has two business days to confirm whether he will participate in the pre-selection that will take place on March 8, 10 and 12 on the beaches of southern Lima.

Mulanovich has not yet commented on the FENTA resolution.
