Fernando Aguerre is seeking his eighth re-election in Japan

The International Surfing Association elections will be held on September 16 during the World Surfing Games

International Surfing Association President Fernando Aguerre, who is the person most responsible for making surfing an Olympic sport in Tokyo 2020, will be up for re-election for the eighth time on September 16 during the organization's biennial general meeting, the organization's executive director, Robert Fasulo, said in an email sent to national federations that DUKE had access to.

Aguerre began his term in 1994 and with this re-election (he is the only one running for the position) he will complete, if he completes the term, 28 years in office in 2022.

What certainly has a very special flavour for the period that would begin immediately after the aforementioned meeting is that in 2020 he would be the main leader of surfing during the goal of a good part of his life, Olympic surfing.

The current vice-presidents Barbara Kendall (NZL) and Casper Steinfath (DEN) will also be up for re-election. The new regular members of the executive committee are the French federation president Jean-Luc Arassus (FRA) and Atsushi Sakai (JPN), pending approval of the new constitution at the annual general meeting, which takes place that evening.
