Filipe champion: The Brazilian did it again
He became the first from his country to win consecutive titles
Brazilian Filipe Toledo won the WSL Finals for the second time in a row and became a two-time world champion after surfing two close heats against Australian Ethan Ewing.
In their first match, Toledo made a small difference thanks to a combo from a curve to an aerial that earned him 9 and defined the series in his favor by 17,97 to 17,23.
The second, with less consistent waves, had the Brazilian more connected with the few series that were presented. He flew and attacked to add 14,27 versus 12,37.
Ewing had to change boards on a wave where he got within reasonable distance, but with less than two minutes to go it was too late.
With 40 seconds and priority, Toledo marked Ewing and that was it.
“Sacrifice” was the first thing he said when he was interviewed. He said that it took a lot of sacrifice to get to where he is and he highlighted another historic fact: He is the first Brazilian to win consecutive titles.
He recalled that he was not that present for his children at the beginning but that he knew that he would get his reward one day and he did.
