Filipe Toledo collided with a photographer in the middle of the Abu Dhabi CT

“Get this guy out of the water,” he said angrily as he emerged from the water; he was eliminated by Kanoa Igarashi

Two-time world champion Filipe Toledo collided with WSL official photographer Thiago Diz today on his second right of his clash against Kanoa Igarashi.

Toledo received a 6,83 for his wave, then gestured around showing his broken board with two fins missing, complained to the photographer who raised his hand in apology, and went to surf the left, visibly upset.

He managed to complete the tube and do a couple of maneuvers but fell in an aerial.

When he came out of the water, upset, he said, “Get this guy out of the water,” which has been happening in practice and there have already been complaints.

The Brazilian greeted Kanoa Igarashi, congratulated him, “good surfing,” he said, and threw the board into the rack in front of his manager Luiz Henrique Pinga and his brother Davi.

Seconds later, the technical director of the event, Renato Hickel, appeared and explained that the head judge, Luli Pereira, analyzed the entire series and said that the result would not have changed if the maneuver was completed, “at most it would have given 0,5 more to the wave” and therefore “the result remains the same.”

The final result was 15,77 (8,17 + 7,6) versus 12,6 (6,83 + 5,77).
