The current world champion, Brazilian Filipe Toledo, dreams of a triple Brazilian podium in Teahupoo, where the Paris 2024 surfing event will take place, He declared in an interview with Globo.
“It would be incredible to get the third place through the ISA World Championships and have three representatives,” he said, also confessing that he would like Chumbo Chianca and Miguel Pupo to be in the final five, in addition to himself, although he believes that Miguel and Yago Dora will be the ones who will make it.
The next ISA World Championships in which an extra quota for Paris 2024 is at stake is the one in Puerto Rico in February of the same year.
“I have two children, a house, a wife, a family, my brothers, my mother, my mother. I take care of all of us. I want to be sure that when everything is over, championships, sponsorships, I will put my head on the pillow and sleep in peace.”
Regarding the Games, which will be held in Paris, she said that she “certainly” recognizes that Pipe and Teahupoo are her shortcomings. “Everyone has a point to improve and that is mine (…) I feel that I have to improve a lot and for that it is necessary to spend more time in the water (…) The time will come when I will be able to show my talent there as well,” she said.
Asked about the various businesses he is investing in, such as a surf shop in Brazil, NFTs and a poke chain, Filipe said that not everyone is like Kelly and that the sooner one thinks about that, the better. “I have two children, a house, a wife, a family, my brothers, my mother, my mother. I take care of all of us. I want to be sure that when everything is over, championships, sponsorships, I will put my head on the pillow and sleep in peace.”
Finally, Filipe agreed with journalist Diogo Mourao's statement that judging has changed and explained that they are paying for the combination of progressive maneuvers with classic ones and that the days of aerials winning 10 points are over.
