Filipe Toledo won the Rio Pro and is now in the running for his first world title
Julian Wilson finished third and heads to Bali as the leader of the rankings. Wade Carmichael pulled off a surprise and finished second
Filipe Toledo delighted his nation on a packed beach day in Saquarema and won the Oi Rio Pro once again, beating the surprise of the event, Australian rookie Wade Carmichael, in the final, who quietly made his way through heats until reaching the final.
A few seconds into the decision, Toledo fell on his first wave, his board broke and the beach fell silent. Was this the first time Toledo lost a CT final at home? No, it wasn't. A few minutes later he was surfing a good one and then a tube that was worth 9,93 and drove the locals crazy.
Carmichael seemed satisfied with second place and did not seem to want to spoil the Brazilian party.
When he came out of the water, the home fans went crazy. During the interview during the broadcast, Toledo started crying and could not combine his words as well as his aerials. He explained that it was good to be back and to be welcomed like this (the Brazilian lives in California). On the other hand, he explained that it was exciting to win because he had not been present for the birth of his second child, who is in California.

The leader of the ranking, Julian Wilson, was unable to beat Toledo, who was unbearable in his series, doing combinations of tubes with aerials without stopping. The final score of that series was 16,37 vs 5,63. However, this result is positive for Wilson, who took advantage of almost all the contenders except Toledo himself, who came close to him.
In the other semi, Zeka Lau could not beat Carmichael in a more contested series: 13,17 vs 9,27.
The tour now continues in Bali, from May 27 to June 9, and 48 hours later it will resume where it was in Margaret River. With a first, a third, a 13th and a round to restart from round 3, Wilson has a good chance of winning his first title.

1- Filipe Toledo
2- Wade Carmichael
3- Ezekiel Lau and Julian Wilson
5- Gabriel Medina, Michael Rodrigues, Yago Dora and Kolohe Andino
