Filipe calls for a swimming pool for the Olympic Games: “The best surfer really wins!”

“Let’s be honest, if the sea had remained as it was in round 3, Gabriel would have won gold and we know it!” he said.

The current world champion, Filipe Toledo, believes that the Olympic Games should be held in wave pools because they provide equal opportunities for all participants. He said this in the Instagram comments of an AOS Mídia post, in which they asked if a measure should be taken after Medina's series.

Toledo dedicated a long message: “I love the sea and I don’t think anything beats nature! But as far as the Olympics are concerned, I think it would be the fairest way! Everyone would have enough chances to give their best! Let’s be honest, if the sea remained as it was in round 3, Gabriel would have won gold and we know it! The pool provides this condition from start to finish and, in the end, the best surfer really wins!”

And he added: “If I lost in the wave pool, at least I would lose surfing and giving my best, which was not the case with Gabriel who, in my opinion, did not even lose, he simply did not have a chance! Every four years, I think that an athlete must be prepared for this unique moment that is the Olympic Games and be sure that he will give his best,” he concluded.

In his series, Gabriel Medina waited almost 20 minutes for a wave that never came to respond to Jack Robinson.

However, Robinson was quick at the start of the series to beat Medina to the position to get the wave that ended up acting as his backup.

The next Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028, and the possible venues that are at least being discussed “in the corridors” are Huntington Beach and Lowers.

In California, there is Slater's Pool, 200 kilometers inland, in Lemoore.
