Six AM, one of the earliest starts in the history of surfing championships was today on the second day of ALAS Guatemala, which defined the semi-finalists and some finalists in all the categories in dispute.

Longboarders, open men, open women and under 18 went into the water.

One of the great revelations of the day and of the tour so far was the surfer from Puerto Escondido, Mexico, Maya Zoe Mateja, who at 14 years old won her heats in both the Under 18 and Open Ladies with glassy waves but closing quite well.

The young Mexican achieved the highest scores of the round in both categories and qualified for the under 18 final and the women's semi-finals.

When she got out of the water she said she felt comfortable because it was similar to her younger days in Zicatela.

This is how the U18 women's final ended:

And so the open ladies semis:

Among the open men, the highlight of the round was Chilean Noel de la Torre, who in his series abused frontispiece aerials to score 12,96 and win his series.

The other one who broke through, making the second best score of the day, was the Uruguayan Martín Ottado, who abused the off the lip backside moves that, well executed on the powerful lefts, were well paid by the judges. He added 12,17.

The quarter-final results were as follows:

Finally, the best performance of the day was made early in the longboard rounds by the local Salvadoran from El Sunzal, Henry Salinas, who added 13,67 to win his series.
