Fioravanti will be out of competition for “a long couple of months”

He underwent surgery after his second shoulder dislocation. His absence will benefit Brazilian Caio Ibelli

After suffering a serious wipeout in the waves of The Box, prior to the start of day 3 of the Margaret River Pro, Italian Leonardo Fioravanti underwent surgery and will be out of competition for a “long couple of months,” he himself said yesterday on his Instagram.

“After dislocating my shoulder for the second time during the Margaret River Pro, the best option was to undergo surgery. I had it done today in Bordeaux and luckily everything went well,” she wrote, adding that she will have to work hard to return.

His absence will have a very important impact on his race towards Tokyo 2020, as he does not come from a traditional country, with a position in the middle of the table being guaranteed in surfing's debut at the games.

This acts as good news for Caio Ibelli, who after the return of Adriano de Souza was left with no space to compete in the CT. Fioravanti's absence now gives him a few more tournaments.

If it is indeed two months, Fioravanti could be back for Stage 7, which will take place between August 21 and September 1 in Teahupoo.
