Nazaré's first giant swell of the year caused fractures to Pierre Rollet and CJ Macias
"The worst wipeout in recent times" in Nazaré, said Portugal-based filmmaker Benja Arena
The sea rose again in Portugal yesterday and Nazaré claimed some broken bones again. This time it was the turn of the American big rider CJ Macias and the Frenchman Pierre Rollet.
The first one had what the Argentine filmmaker based in Portugal, Benja Arena, calls "the worst wipeout in recent times," according to which he had to be rescued and taken to the hospital with an exposed fracture in one of his arms.
Macias rode the wave with control but the lip fell on top of him. He came out ahead anyway but then fell in the worst possible way, with the mountain of water swallowing him up.
Pierre Rollet, for his part, fell into a wave and fractured some of his ribs.
Both were taken to the hospital and are out of danger.
