Five postcards from an absolutely epic El Salvador

Magical moments that are more common than you might imagine in the land of perfect right-handers

Of all the South American countries, none faces as far south as El Salvador, and none has such a rugged coastline with points and more points that generate long, perfect waves. On the other hand, the consistently warm climate and gentle offshore winds welcome the swells generated by storms that occur thousands of kilometers away.

All this combined makes El Salvador one of the best countries to go surfing in the entire world. Even more so when you consider the large number of waves that accumulate in such a short space of time and the fact that the tourist influx is still very quiet.

The following are some snapshots taken by the prestigious Californian photographer Billy Watts. He portrays the beauty of the queen of the coast, Punta Roca, from different profiles with different moods but with its perfection and impressive length as a special feature.

How can there be no one in the water? All photos: Billy Watts
This photo was taken during one of the best QSs in many years on the entire world tour. How many QS tournaments have waves like the one in the photo?
Two treasures of La Libertad: Fishing and waves in one photo.
Locals appreciating the beauty of their town. This photo shows how long Punta Roca is, how it sticks to the rocks along its course, creating sections of maneuvers with sections of tubes. The Jeffreys Bay of Latin America? Yes.
