Five series and until tomorrow

Jacob Wilcox and Jeronimo Vargas were the best on a short day at El Gringo today

The Maui and Sons Arica Pro Tour was stopped at 10:30am in a three to five foot sea with tubes, a bit windy but still better than any QS on the planet.

The decision was questioned by some athletes, but supported by others. The organization stood firm in its opinion and with only five series completed, the championship was stopped.

Álvaro Malpartida, Tomás Tudela, Jordy Collins and Samuel Igo, who were in the water to start heat 2, spoke with the organization and agreed to stop the tournament.

With two days left in the waiting period, there are still 17 series to be played, making it almost certain that the championship will end on Sunday.

The waves were a little smaller, giving room for some maneuvers. Jeronimo Vargas took advantage.

The sea is expected to rise slightly tomorrow afternoon. In any case, there will be plenty of tubes.

The best performance of the day was by Australian Jacob Wilcox, who has an incredible nose for tubes, who scored 12,34 and is one of the four who guaranteed their passage to the round of 16 surfers. The other three are Vitor Mendes, Danilo Cerda and Joao Chianca.

Another who stood out was the Brazilian Jeronimo Vargas, who added 12 to leave one of the favorites, Jack Robinson, in second place, the former CT Wiggolly Dantas in third place and Jhonny Corzo in fourth place.

Once again, Australian Nick Callister, who appeared as an unknown at the event, showed that he knows what he is doing on the tubes and passed alongside the talented Franco-Mexican Nomme Mignot.

The event will continue tomorrow at 7:00, with the call at 6:30 when it is dark in Arica.

Chile suffered a big blow today with the defeat of Manuel Selman.

Hawaiian Torrey Meister passed his heat and made it to round 4.

Vitor Mendes is now in round 5 thanks to the bravery and class he has shown on El Gringo's tubes.

The locals say that "it's small", but some very solid ones come out.
