Slater, competitive as he has always been, couldn't just sit at home knowing that there were people living Bali the way they say Bali was when Bali was Bali.

When Gerry Lopez surfed Uluwatu in the 1970s, he entered the history books.

I had reached the island of the gods, with only gods and no tourists. And that was so real that it became a legend.

Now the appeal is to repeat what Gerry did.

There are people who are doing it. Kelly is one of them.
