Another day of Quik and Roxy Pro was held, the third, which at times was criticized for having bad waves but at other times had some great tubes that contradicted the critics.

What was clear, however, was that finding the bombs was not easy; they were there, but they had to be found.

Four of the top 10 men lost on the day: Owen Wright, Filipe Toledo, Kelly Slater and Kanoa Igarashi.

Below are some highlights of the day:

Toledo, his back and how weak he is to withstand pressure. It doesn't look like he's going to win a world title this year.

Filipe Toledo could not beat Marc Larcomare and against his own pressure and a back problem

Just like last year, when the chips were down, Toledo was unable to shine. Today, the long-time QS fighter, local Marc Larcomare, put him against the wall quickly after coming out of a good tube at the beginning of his series and backing up with another one.

Despite trying with a tube and an aerial, Filipe left France early again.

This not only keeps him away from the world title but also opens the door for Italo Ferreira to take the second Brazilian Olympic spot.

The exit from this tube gave Fioravanti an 8,33 and left Slater out of the event, surely outside the top 10 and Olympic qualification.

Slater goes zero to three against Leo Fioravanti

It seemed that the best in history had finally turned the tables on the young Italian, but that was not the case: With 90 seconds left, Fioravanti found a good right foot, hit a shot and went out celebrating with all his fans.

A short while later, the scores were announced, confirming the Italians' fury and Slater's dismay, who with this result is moving away from the top 10 and increasingly further away from qualifying for Tokyo 2020.

One important fact is that he is staying at Fioravanti's house in Hossegor. As one of the commentators said today: "At dinner tonight they are going to throw meatballs at each other's heads."

Brisa surfed well but Johanne Defay (photo) was very inspired in her series and with 16 points she left her out.

Brisa said goodbye to the event but her place in the top 10 looks pretty firm

Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy said goodbye to France in ninth place after facing local Johanne Defay who had a dream run; she found a 9 which she then backed up with a 7.

With the 10,17 she scored, Brisa would have passed three of the eight series of the round, but she found herself up against the inspired Frenchwoman.

Since all those behind her in the rankings also lost, her place in the elite is not in danger for now.

Courtney Conlogue was in charge of the best performance of the day today in France.

Courtney Conlogue achieved the first 10 of the event

With the last priority in the overlapping heats, Courtney Conlogue landed a backside tube on her first wave that the judges were quick to give her a unanimous 10 points.

Shortly after, he found an eight and something on a right-hand tube that left Fierro with no chance at all. Being from Tahiti, he strangely went looking for the waves on the outside where there were more walls but few tubes.

Conlogue came very close to becoming the first woman in history to achieve a perfect series, falling just two points short of making it 20 out of a possible 20.
