The extensive list of competitors for the Equans Cup, stage 1 of the ALAS that will take place this weekend in Punta Rocas, shows a large number of very talented Frenchmen who will be part of the event.
ALAS, which went from being Latin American to Pan-American, is now global. This is how its president Karín Sierralta explains it: “The objective of opening ALAS to the world is because they already have a world level, what has been demonstrated in the last ISA world championships indicates that the kids are ready for the big leagues and to make a name for themselves worldwide. This is why we have opened the doors at ALAS not only for surfers from different continents to come and compete on the tour but for us to hold events in other places around the world.”
“ALAS was created to promote, encourage and develop surfing throughout Latin America, mainly to raise the competitive level of young people in the region and there was a need for a platform that would help them demonstrate their level and thus make a name for themselves internationally and get sponsorship to dream of becoming professionals. That's where ALAS was born 23 years ago and that's where our champions and best athletes have migrated to the world tour,” added Sierralta, who said that surfers from Russia, Germany, Ukraine and Iran already participated in 2023.
There are already talks about the first time in history that the ALAS tour will have stages in different parts of the world and not just in the Pan-American region.
So yes, Ethan Ewing can compete in ALAS and yes, there can be a stage of ALAS in Fiji.
