Young Peruvian longboarder Lucas Garrido Lecca placed fifth in the Cuervo Surf Ranch Classic, held yesterday at Slater's pool in Lemoore, California.
Having surfed two training waves, Lecca had an impeccable first round (13,14: 5,97 and 7,17) in which he managed to place among the best eight of 18 who participated in the event and advance to the semi-finals.
Once in that instance he had the opportunity to surf four more waves in which he took risks but did not succeed: He had a 6,5 on the best left but did not back up well on the right: 4,63.
The result earned him 5.000 points and $2.000, placing him fifth in the world rankings ahead of the final stage in Malibu, which will take place from October 3 to 13.
At the men's level, the event was won by the Frenchman Edouard Delpero and at the women's level by the Hawaiian Honolua Blomfield.
This is how the finals turned out:
Ladies
1. Honolua Blomfield (HAW) 18.50
2. Soleil Errico (USA) 16.47
3. Alice Lemoigne (FRA) 13.10
4. Avalon Gall (USA) 12.34
