La Paloma locals Marco Giorgi and Delfina Morosini won the Corona Pro as part of the return of the first division professional surfing competition in Uruguay.

On a day that started with choppy, out-of-control waves but ended with perfect right-handers at Zanja Honda, the two regular footers dominated in their respective divisions.

Giorgi, who returned as a favourite to compete in Uruguay after several years, won all his heats, and in the final he won with two 6,17s to leave Sebastián Olarte in second, Francisco Morosini in third and Lucas Madrid in fourth.

The former QS top 100 started strong with a high aerial in the critical part of a good right hand that he then backed up with a combo of maneuvers.

Olarte was brilliant with a powerful backside, found two forehands that he attacked hard to place second. Close behind was Morosini who made good use of his backswing attack and, finally, Lucas Madrid had a good rhythm to attack hard but did not have the same harmony as in the semis when he dominated his series against Giorgi for a long time.

In the women's category, Delfina Morosini was devastating from start to finish, and in a final in which there were few waves, she shone even more. She found two right-handers in which she combined curves with attacks to leave Celia Barboza in second, Sofía Alfonso in third and Gabriela Dourado in fourth.

According to what the president of the Uruguayan Surfing Union, Federico Deal, said in the live broadcast, the national circuit will have three more stages this year in addition to the one held in September 2020 in El Pepe, which was won by Sebastián Olarte and Delfina Morosini.
