Basque surfers Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri and Bitor Garitaonandia won today the first stage of the WSL European Junior Circuit which took place in waves of two to three feet at Ain Diab beach in Morocco.
The Basque dominance in the tournament was felt, the two champions were joined by the men's finalist Markel Vizcarguenaga and the semi-finalist Hans Odriozola.
Gonzalez Etxabarri, for her part, was superior to the French Maelys Jouault in the grand final and had the Portuguese Gabriela Dinis and the French Zoe Jackin in third place.
Etxebarri, who has already won several junior events, said after winning that his expectations were to be in the Gold Coast Challenger at this time, so he travelled to Morocco to have fun and that was the key to victory.
Meanwhile, Garitaonandia had never managed to improve to ninth in her career in WSL championships, both juniors and QSs, and once she managed to get into the quarterfinals she did not stop until she won the grand final against her neighbor.
This is how the ranking that classifies two by gender to the world grand final was:
