On May 4, the day Eddie Aikau would have turned 73, he was remembered in the Google logo, according to several American sites.

This is the second time Google has included a surfer in its logo design, the first being Duke Kahanamoku at 125 years old.

Eddie Aikau, the big wave surfer and lifeguard, was born in 1946 in Hawaii and died in 1978. The surfer cemented his reputation by winning the Duke Classic in 1977.

At the age of 31, he volunteered on a trip from Hawaii to Tahiti to revive Hawaiian traditions. In 1978 he went on another expedition, but his canoe capsized and he died. His body was never found.
