White shark gave a very close visit to the JBay line up with surfers
Nathan Florence tried to alert everyone with his drone, Rio Waida had him next to him, Ian Gentil "bathed" him with a cutback
A great white shark cruised through the JBay lineup midday today while some of the world's best surfers were in the water.
Hawaiian Nathan Florence heard what happened and asked his filmmaker, Zoard Janko, to record it with the drone.
This is how he recounted it:
“Some groms came out of the water saying they had seen a great white shark near the surfers, close enough to see their eyes! I asked Zoard (their filmmaker) to send the drone to see if we could see it, and there was the shark hanging around the peak. I tried to alert Rio Waida with the drone; it was getting closer to him and I called the people on the beach to warn the surfers that it was swimming in the lineup!”
Everything went well, everyone got out of the water and the shark continued to swim up the spot and left. It's crazy to see it, we know we're playing in its zone but seeing how calmly they approach without being detected is wild!
Ian Gentil actually sprayed him,” Florence concludes.
