They gave the green light to hold the Nazaré Big Wave Challenge tomorrow starting at 9am local time in Portugal.

“The biggest swell of the year is heading towards Nazaré,” said the WSL, and wave specialist Nic Von Rupp said it was the “swell of the decade.”

And all this is happening amidst a series of swells that have made the wave break non-stop.

Chilean Rafael Tapia, who has achieved a team podium finish at the event, will compete alongside Frenchman Pierre Rollet.

Below are all the competitors:

Team 1: Nic von Rupp (POR) / Clement Roseyro (FRA)
Team 2: Lucas 'Chumbo' Chianca (BRA) / Pedro 'Scooby' Vianna (BRA)
Team 3: Andrew Cotton (GBR) / James Carew (AUS)
Team 4: Rodrigo Koxa (BRA) / Vitor Faria (BRA)
Team 5: Rafael Tapia (CHL) / Pierre Rollet (FRA)
Team 6: Benjamin Sanchis (FRA) / Jérôme Sahyoun (MAR)
Team 7: Justine Dupont (FRA) / Éric Rebière (FRA)
Team 8: Michelle des Bouillons (BRA) / Ian Cosenza (BRA)
Team 9: Laura Crane (GBR) / Antonio Laureano (POR)

The format: “The competition features nine teams of two competitors, divided into three groups. Each group consists of three teams that will participate in two 45-minute series, with team members alternating between surfing and riding the jet ski.”

“A surfer’s two best waves after both sets will count toward their total individual score, with the best wave counting double. In total, a surfer’s maximum individual score will be 30 points, and each wave is scored from 0 to 10 points,” the organizers stated.

The following will be awarded:
-Best Male Performance: Surfer with the two highest-scoring waves
-Best Female Performance: Surfer with the two highest-scoring waves
-Best Team Performance: Sum of the two best waves of both surfers on the team
