With his ninth place finish at JBay, Californian Griffin Colapinto is also guaranteed a spot in Paris 2024, the Instagram profile reported. AOS Media and confirmed DUKE calculating.
The 3320 points that Colapinto earned bring him to the 47540-point mark, which makes it mathematically impossible for the rest of the Americans in the race to catch up.
John John finished the event ninth as well and reached the mark of 34290, which means that even if he wins at Teahupoo and Griffin does not show up for that event, the Californian would still be above.
The other contenders, Ian Gentil who is in the quarterfinals against Gabriel Medina and Barron Mamiya are mathematically impossible to catch Colapinto even with the former winning both events.
For his part, John John will be practically assured if Gentil loses against Medina tomorrow. He will only have to participate in Tahiti and finish last to qualify for his second Olympic Games.
In the event that John John is injured or misses the Tahitian leg, he will have 265 points and with Barron Mamiya winning that race, the second-place finisher for the United States will be Mamiya himself.
A situation that would be extremely strange.
