Hans Odriozola, who was a world champion representing Spain and who has represented that country all his life, will now be part of the German team, he announced on social media in a brief message.
“After dealing with the bureaucracy for almost six months, I am pleased to announce that I will now represent Germany. I am excited about this new chapter and eager to work with such a great team as the German federation,” he declared on Instagram.
He added: “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in my last ISA Junior World Championship because I’m only missing a few days of the regulatory requirement, but that’s how it goes. I’ll focus on the road ahead.”
According to Diario Vasco, the young Basque man can represent the Teutons because his mother is German.
The move is presumed to be linked to the chances of qualifying for the Olympic Games, but also to the fact that German athletes, especially Olympians, receive high-level financial treatment.
