There are no limits for Robert Kelly Slater. Just when everyone is talking about this being his last season, six days shy of his 50th birthday, he won the Billabong Pipe Pro, his 56th CT win, further separating him from the pack as the greatest surfer in history.

The conditions were perfect at Pipe for Kelly to win, he was big and challenging.

The 11-time champion first got rid of Kanoa Igarashi, then Miguel Pupo and in the final he put on a Backdoor show against Seth Moniz. He totaled 18,77 (9+9,77) which was superior to the 12,53 of the Hawaiian (9,43+3,1).

Visibly emotional in the interview when he came out of the water, he said: “It is the best victory of my life.”

This is Slater's 56th win, his eighth at Pipe. Slater won his first Pipe Masters in 1992.

With this result, Slater moves into first place in the rankings.

"Thanks to everyone here, the surfers who push us to be the best. Thanks to Seth, we had a moment before the series, he told me to push him. I know he's the man, the next bull," he said later at the awards ceremony.

He then sent out an important announcement: "I don't know if I'll be going to Sunset, this may be my last event."

He added: "I dedicate my life to what I do, I love it and sometimes I hate it. It has everything for me." He also reflected on how he dedicated his life to the wave and that it gave him his best memories.
