Heavy seas forecast for first day of Haleiwa Challenger waiting period

“A northwesterly swell will move in Wednesday, possibly reaching warning levels for northern and western exposures through Thanksgiving,” writes the U.S. National Weather Service.

“A northwest swell will move in on Wednesday, possibly reaching warning levels for north and west exposed areas through Thanksgiving. The energy of this northwest swell will decrease between Friday and Saturday,” the U.S. National Weather Service writes on its website in its observations on waves in Oahu for the following days.

These are consistent with what is shown by websites specialising in wave prediction, such as MagicSeaWeed and Surfline, which use different models for their calculations.

They agree that waves will be around 2 to 3 meters during Friday 26th with a light crosswind from the east-northeast and a low period for Hawaii, between 12 and 15 seconds.

One important note is that this swell will have a lot of northerly winds, between 335 and 338. Surfline reports that the optimal direction for Haleiwa is between 310 and 340. That is, it is on the edge of what is ideal. Although it also receives waves of 299 to 360.

The extended forecast sees two more storm surges entering within the waiting period from November 26 to December 7. One on December 1 and another between the 4th and 5th.

Considering that these are two marathon tournaments, it is expected that all the conditions that arise will be used, so it is plausible to think that the event will start quickly.

Lucca Mesinas, Carlos Muñoz, Alonso Correa and Ariane Ochoa will compete in it with great and historic chances of getting into the CT.
