Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy fell to the elimination round at the CT Teahupoo event, placing second in her heat against Stephanie Gilmore and Isabella Nichols.
Brisa surfed the best wave of the series, a 4,17 that she rode at the end, when she needed just over five points.
The result leaves her in a compromised position but at the same time with the good news that her main rivals for the fifth place that qualifies for the finals also fell to the elimination round. Lakey Peterson, Tyler Wright, Gabriela Bryan will also compete in round 2.
The Costa Rican will face the Hawaiian Bryan in a series that will be crucial if she wants to qualify for the WSL grand finals.
The best result in the rest of the series was Carisa Moore, who was pressured by local Vahine Fierro; the match ended 13-11. The local Tahitian would have won all the other heats with that score.
The event is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a swell but there are no certainties about the behaviour of the local weather.
