Hennessy finished fifth at Sunset

In a series with divided scores from the judges, she lost to Molly Picklum who, together with Filipe Toledo, were crowned champions of the second CT of the year.

Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy finished in fifth place in the Sunset CT that concluded yesterday Sunday in waves of one to two meters and consecrated Filipe Toledo and Molly Picklum as champions.

She was a victim of the aforementioned Australian in the quarterfinals and a rather low score in her last wave.

Needing 4,8, two judges gave it the score and three did not.

This result left Hennessy in sixth place in the rankings ahead of the Portugal stage, which will take place between March 8 and 16.

The controversy arose because until then the only high score in the series was Picklum's 5,67; for commentator Peter Mel, Brisa's wave was enough to turn the series around.

Hennessy came down and did a powerful layback snap before carving another one in the crit. On the fifth Molly did a floater and then a radical tail slide in the crit before finishing with some not very radical cutbacks.

The Australian went on to win the event later in the day, beating Tyler Wright in the semis and Caroline Marks in the grand final. The result left her tied for first in the rankings with Carissa Moore, both with one win and a fifth place.

The female top 4 is now like this:
1 – Carissa Moore (HAW), 14,745 points
2 - Molly Picklum (AUS), 14,745 points
3 – Tyler Wright (AUS), 13,885
4 - Gabriela Bryan (HAW), 10,8830

Among the men, Filipe Toledo found victory again, thanks to good competition and good rail surfing and lip attacks.

He beat Griffin Colapinto in the grand final and with the result he moved up three places in the ranking but he was unable to take Jack Robinson off the top spot, who finished the event in third place.

This is how the men's top 4 was:
1 - Jack Robinson (AUS) 16,085 points
2 – Filipe Toledo (BRA), 14,745
3 – Joao Chianca (BRA), 12,170
4 – Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA), 11,120
