Hawaii local government announced changes to tournament legislation

WSL lobby managed to change the way it presents itself to organize championships on the islands

After a strong campaign in Hawaii, the World Surfing League has succeeded in getting the local government of Honolulu to implement changes in its laws event permits, according to the official website of the Hawaiian mayor's office.

Starting today, Monday, July 30, event organizers who wish to hold competitions on the North Shore will be able to apply for permits for a three-year period, which will avoid the annual paperwork required previously.

This also means that the WSL will be able to apply to hold the Pipe Masters in January, as the organization had requested in February, but was denied by the Honolulu government, creating the “Hawaiian crisis”.

The changes include eliminating appeals, allowing for cancellation of events due to beach erosion, changing deadlines for event applications, and other new rules that clarify the process for big wave events.

It is not known if this will end up granting her the return of the Pipe Masters and at the beginning of the year as had been planned for 2019, but it does indicate a more passable panorama for the WSL that had the aforementioned encounter a few months ago.
