IOC accepts Paris proposal to have surfing in the 2024 Olympics
Skateboarding, climbing and breakdancing have also been accepted. The final decision will come at the end of 2020 but everyone is very positive that it will become a reality.
The International Olympic Committee's executive board has endorsed and accepted the recommendations made by the Paris organising committee that surfing, skateboarding, climbing and breakdancing should be included in the 2024 Games.
“The four sports are clearly in line with the 2020 Olympic agenda, contributing to making the programme more gender-balanced, youth-focused and more urban. They offer the opportunity to connect with younger generations,” said IOC President Thomas Bach.
“The outcome of the IOC Session is still pending and it is important to note that the sports will be provisionally included although the final decision will be made at the end of 2020,” he added.
The ISA welcomed the decision through various posts on social media.
Several experts have explained that once the host country recommends a sport, the IOC is unlikely to give it the thumbs down.
