“I wouldn’t feel good if I won, nor if I let myself lose. It’s better not to participate.”

“I wouldn’t feel good if I won, nor if I threw the game. It’s better not to participate,” Australian Connor O’Leary summarized his stance on whether CTs should participate in Challenger Series events in a conversation with The LAGO Podcast, shared by the outlet on IG.

The Australian was asked: “How does the CT crew behave at Challenger Series events by potentially ruining someone’s dream of qualifying?”

And he replied: “Yes, it’s strange… I guess it depends on the time of year. I was thinking of entering Merewether to practice a bit, but I decided against it because I didn’t want to compete against a friend who needs to qualify. I wouldn’t feel right if I won, nor if I threw the game. It’s better not to enter. People have different opinions, but I think I’ll stay out of the next two events and let the challengers compete against each other,” he explained.

In the comments, current world champion Yago Dora supported the idea, saying, "Absolutely correct."

The presence of CTs and Hawaiian locals, especially at Pipe's event, has stirred up controversy on social media and in hallways once again.

On one hand, the event gains names but generates dissatisfaction for CS competitors who have to face top surfers who are already qualified for the CT.
