ISA announces dates for the longboard and WSG world championships in El Salvador

The events will be held in April and September respectively, in 2026 there will be juniors and it is presumed that in 2027 the WSG will return with Olympic consequences.

The ISA announced today that the World Longboard Championship will take place in El Salvador between April 18 and 24 and the World Surfing Games between September 5 and 14. It was also confirmed that next year the youth world championship will take place in the country and it is presumed that in 2027 it will be the Olympic qualifier for the World Surfing Games.

This is part of a contract that the ISA itself informed its members about at the annual meeting months ago, in which for three years El Salvador will host the world longboard championship and/or the juniors or the World Surfing Games with the option of also hosting the Masters.

The statement also reports on the ISA's commitment "to strengthen the capabilities of surf schools across the country by implementing ISA Level I and Level II training and instruction programs. In addition, national judges will be trained and certified through the ISA Judges Course."

“Surf City El Salvador continues to grow internationally with long-term partnerships with key organizations in the world of surfing such as the ISA. We have built a solid working relationship and friendship with the ISA over the years, and this has helped position our world-class waves and expand the quality of our tourism services both for surfing and other national destinations. Our partnership with the ISA reflects the constant and sustainable transformation of El Salvador,” said El Salvador’s Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre said: “This historic partnership is something I am very proud of. El Salvador’s commitment to continue hosting ISA World Championships in the coming years means that national federations can plan well in advance how to develop World and Olympic Champion athletes, with El Salvador’s incredible waves at the heart of those plans.”

“Surfing has been a game-changer for tourism in El Salvador, and for very good reason. The endless waves that fill its stunning coastline are the stuff of dreams for surfers around the world. We have worked very closely with President Bukele, Minister Valdez and the rest of the Salvadoran government, as well as the incredible people of El Salvador, for many years. I am very happy that our relationship will continue for many years to come,” she added.

Although the beaches where the events will take place were not specified, it is presumed that the longboard world championship will be in El Sunzal and the World Surfing Games in La Bocana and El Sunzal.
