ISA plans to change its constitution and move to a seven-member board

There are also elections coming up, and if he runs, Fernando Aguerre would be running for his ninth term as president.

The International Surfing Association plans to make changes to its Constitution beginning with the annual and biennial general meetings that will take place during the upcoming World Surfing Games in Japan in mid-September, its director general, Bob Fasulo, said in an email to its member nations that was seen by DUKE.

The full details of what the change will entail were not provided, they say that the aim is for this new constitution to accompany a “more modern” ISA, however they anticipate that the board will be made up of seven people instead of the five they have now (if the majority of member nations vote in favor).

In this regard, the ISA opens the door for member nations to present possible candidates to be vice presidents by setting a short deadline for submitting resumes, up to one month before the meeting, that is, August 16.

On the other hand, there will be a vote on the election of two vice presidents and the president. It has not been announced whether Fernando Aguerre will stand for his ninth term as president, but it is expected that he will. The Argentine worked 24 years to get surfing into the Olympics, he is not going to retire just before the gigantic achievement begins.

These changes, as the annual and biennial general meetings take place on the same afternoon, are expected to be voted on the same day, September 16, 2018.
