Brazilian Ian Gouveia competed with 22 stitches in his knee in his debut at CT 2025 and won his series against none other than John John Florence, as he recounted in an interview conducted by AOS Mídia.

The cut had been made in a closed tube at Backdoor that had been made six days before the championship.

He said he always knew he would compete anyway and had his injury fixed by the doctors before he got in the water. In the video he can be seen putting in some good barrels at Pipe with the stitches in his knee before the tournament.

He added that he will probably have to compete every day with the 22 stitches still in his knee.

Gouveia became emotional in his interview after coming out of the water, he said, because he felt there that it had really happened, that he was back.

The Brazilian awaits an opponent in round 3.
