Brazilian Ian Vaz won the first Brazilian Giants Award for the biggest wave surfed in the winter in that country for the bomb he landed at Laje do Avalanche in Espirito Santo last July.

According to oceanographer Douglas Neme's measurement, the wave measured 11,2 metres and was 1,4 metres larger than the one his brother, Caio, surfed during the same swell and measuring 9,8 metres. The tied third place was shared between Stephan Figueredo and Rodrigo Cardozo, each with waves of 8,4 metres, the former surfed at Laje da Besta in Rio de Janeiro and the latter also at Avalanche.

The list of winners is closed by Ruan Polessa and Felipe Cesarano, also tied for fourth with waves of 8,1 metres, one wave surfed in Cabo Frio by the former and another surfed in Itacoatiara by the latter.

Seven thousand reais, approximately 1700 dollars, went to the winner and about 730 dollars to the filmmaker, Straya Filmes.
