If the event starts tomorrow, Slater will surf Punta Roca for the first time in his series

Unless he goes to the water now at night, or at 5:00am; and a chapter on everything that is (not) known about the champion's arrival in El Salvador

Special coverage presented by Surf City - El Salvador Travel

The eyes of locals, filmmakers and the person writing this have been on what the best in the history of surfing in El Salvador does.

That he is in El Salvador was already reported earlier today on DUKE… Many times Slater leaves his arrival to places for later, but this time he was punctual.

Today, since the sun came up, local filmmakers kept watch to see the pros, but of course, mainly to see the man, the myth, the legend.

The thing was that at 7:10, DUKE was already present on the pebble stones of the legendary Punta Roca, the waves were very fun and promised to get better. We asked the locals if Kelly had arrived and they all said no.

We waited a while watching the pros tear it up on an extremely fun and maneuverable Punta Roca (see video here).

The “call” that there should be no event caught attention, because the sea was fun and it would get more fun because the tide was high and would go down, which would make the waves more “still,” Caio Ibelli himself told DUKE in the live broadcast.

At one point a bald guy went into the water, I think it was with Carissa Moore, and people got really excited and made fun of him because he wasn't the champ.

And, with the sun burning and the filmmaker asking for breakfast, they had to leave.

I spoke to one of the local “meros meros”, guardians of the most important waves there, Gordinho, Carlos Pérez, Bryan’s brother who is a very good drone pilot and he assured that Kelly did not show up on the day.

Hoping that he would make his classic late afternoon, nocturnal appearance, we went with Juani (the filmmaker) to Punta Roca, with a last breath of hope.

Inside I thought that he couldn't be so irresponsible as to compete on a wave he had never surfed.

Well, it seems that this is how it will be: The scene at Punta Roca was heavenly: There were two or three heads in the water and the sea continued to crash playfully.

Liam O'Brien, Johanne Defay and Rio Waida went to the water. There was also local longboarder Amado de Jesús Alvarado and that's where the count ends.

We joked 300 times about “here comes Kelly” and whoever fell would turn around with a stupid face and the rest would laugh.

Kelly never came, and so tomorrow, if the event is launched, he will compete in his first surfing at Punta Roca (OK, he can freesurf now at night or tomorrow at 5:00). But everyone knows that Kelly is quite a sleepyhead.

We will see.

A chapter apart is that of everything that has been said about Kelly in El Salvador… It's wonderful! What is true and what is not is a chapter apart.
But I have been told that he surfed El Sunzal, which is the friendliest wave in the area and is very different from Punta Roca, where he travels in an armored vehicle and with extra security.

They even said that they saw him at the airport today and the main versions indicate that Slater arrived yesterday.

So… That’s the way the world is, friends.

That Kelly is, is, that she did not surf Punta Roca, is also true. Above all else, be able to endure it in its entirety.

It's going to be great to see the best in the world on the queen of the Salvadoran waves!
