In the event that the International Surfing Association responds affirmatively to the request made by the Central Caribbean Surfing Confederation or simply acts ex officio and removes Erin Brooks' result at the ISA World Surfing Games 2023, the person qualified for Santiago 2023 would be Nicaraguan Candelaria Resano.

Resano finished the world championship in 13th position, which means she meets the quality control requirement for Santiago 2023 and would become the fifth eligible surfer from the Pan American region in the world championship.

According to Canadian press reports, Erin Brooks competed in the 2022 Junior World Championships, the Pan American Championships, and the 2023 World Championships without having Canadian citizenship.

The Central Caribbean Surfing Confederation, through its president, Andrés Porras, made a request to have Brooks' results annulled, arguing that her family and the Olympic committee have reported that the talented young surfer is waiting for her nationality to be confirmed.

According to the ISA, to represent a country you must have a passport or identification document from the country.

On the other hand, in terms of qualification for the World Beach Games to be held in Bali, if Brooks' silver medal is taken away, she will drop one more place in the rankings and therefore Teresa Bonvalot will get the last of the 23 eligible slots and Anat Lelior of Israel will get the continental spot.
