If successful, the ISA World Masters will be held in January 2023

Meteorological assessments concluded that the probability of waves in Bocas del Toro in July was low and therefore the decision was made to change the date.

If the funds are raised for a new edition of the ISA World Masters Surfing Championship, the event will take place at the end of January and not in July as originally announced, one of the organizers, legendary Panamanian surfer Patrick Castagnet, told DUKE.

According to weather reports and advice from specialists, the La Niña phenomenon made it plausible to think that in July it would be unlikely for there to be waves in Paunch, Bocas del Toro, so it was decided to change the date.

Asked about the chances of the event being confirmed, Castagnet explained that there is optimism among all Panamanians and that he is working hard to confirm it.

The last time the popular world championship for surfers over 35 was held was in 2013 in Montañita. The event had several successful events, in Nicaragua where Sunny Garcia won and in Peru where Robbie Paige won, among others.

The event awards the best surfers in the +35, +40, +45 and +50 divisions.
