In Portugal, Chumbinho and Simmers took their first wins in the CT
Two of the youngest riders on the tour led the stage that was decided by tubes
The third youngest surfer on the World Tour, Joao Chumbo Chianca and the youngest surfer, Caitlin Simmers won their first ever CT event today in Supertubos, Portugal.
Both of them found themselves in the final against more experienced rivals and found a way to come out on top with a victory.
Chumbo's case was more solid, he started winning and continued winning until the end with two excellent scores of 8,5 and 9,07, to add 17,57 and keep the leader of the ranking, Jack Robinson, in combination, until with eight minutes left he hit a tube that took him out of the combination but left him needing more than eight points that never came.
Simmers' series against Courtney Conlogue was the opposite: The veteran started with a 9 and it seemed like she wasn't going to give the youngster a chance, but in the final stretch of the series the latter managed to get two reasonable scores and Conlogue, who only needed four points, was unable to capitalize.
Tied for third place were Yago Dora and Callum Robson among the men and Tatiana Weston and Macy Callaghan among the women.
The ranking kept Robinson and Molly Picklum, the latter now alone after Carissa Moore lost early.
