In a historic sea, Ramón Navarro won the Lobos por Siempre
Organizers say it was the biggest day in Punta de Lobos in the last 10 years
In what organizers call the biggest surf in the last 10 years at Punta de Lobos, local great Ramón Navarro won Lobos por Siempre, a tournament that marked the return of surfing events in giant conditions to the traditional Chilean break.
After entering the water twice, Navarro outperformed his compatriot Cristopher Tapia (Chile) who placed second, Lucas Chianca (Brazil) who placed third, Natxo Gonzalez (Basque Country), who placed fourth, and Kohl Christensen (Hawaii) who placed fifth.
Navarro shared on his social networks that he had just taken his son to a children's surfing championship and that he was returning focused on the event, for which he had already left everything prepared.
One of the waves that counted towards his score was a giant left, one of the biggest of the day, where he ended up straightening out.
The event director, respected surfer of the wave, Matías López, said: “You could say that it was somewhere between classic, epic, historic and mind-blowing. We had been waiting for it for a long time, because as a committee we were being very selective and careful. The day that the waiting time was ending, the forecast came out and it was the biggest day in the last 10 years, with waves of easily 12 meters.”
For his part, the general director of Lobos por Siempre, Pato Mekis, shared: “We are in a natural setting and we have the opportunity to have giant waves, there are few places in the world that have them, but beyond the sporting aspect, Punta de Lobos and Pichilemu are much more than surfing. The essence is the care of the coastline, the importance of taking care of these spaces, that is why we are very committed to pushing for a Law on Breakers.”
The tournament was attended by approximately 5000 people and had almost 50.000 views on the live broadcast on YouTube.
