Injured players sent to Teahupoo swell of the year

Joao Chumbinho was joined by Eimeo Czermak riding the heaviest wave of yesterday; the biggest paddle out of his life, he said (Griffin Colapinto took it on his head)

Social media exploded with the sight of Joao Chumbinho Chianca surfing comfortably in Tahiti after having only recently returned to the water following his accident at Pipe on December 3.

Heavyweight Eimeo Czermak, a local from Tahiti who also crashed at Pipe and went through what he himself described as the worst time of his life as he suffered brain damage and a slow recovery, rode the heaviest wave of the day.

Scotty Hammonds filmed it and described the moment like this: “Yesterday was crazy. This is Eimeo riding a wave where there is no conversation to be had. Also, at the end I seem to pan in and you can see Griffin taking it on his head. Imagine Griff’s view of this wave!”

"Biggest wave paddle out of my life. I didn't get out. I have to complete the next one," Eimeo wrote in one of her stories.
