It's been about nine months since the last events were cancelled, 11 since the last ALAS in Reñaca, a pandemic happened that is still bothering us, but finally today, Thursday, December 10, competitive surfing returned in Latin America.

The Surf City ALAS Pro began at around 930:14 a.m. on the waves of La Bocana, after an opening ceremony that brought together 14 flag bearers from XNUMX countries and the Salvadoran and ALAS Tour authorities.

22 heats were completed on the day, the entire first round of the men and six of eight heats of the women's round 1 in waves that broke with good formation between one and three feet, inconsistent at times but very competitive.

The sea is expected to rise from midday tomorrow and promises a finale of solid five-foot waves.

A very high level of surfing was the protagonist. In heats where, for example, Carlos Muñoz was second, it is clear that the level is high. The Salvadoran team excelled, Muñoz was beaten by Ericks Adbias, owner of a fluid and radical backside in the waves of his home.

The best performance in the men's category was achieved by Costa Rican Jason Torres, who added 14,33 (6+8,33) to beat Christian Pichardo and Daniel Monterrosa.

Earlier, his compatriot Jair Pérez showed off with a very fast and radical surfing with which he added 14,17 (7+7,17) with which he beat Carlos Escobar and Rodrigo Delgado.

Some of the surprises of the day were the defeat of Mexicans Jafet Ramos and Dylan Southworth and Puerto Ricans Dwight Pastrana and Mauro Díaz.

Among the women, Analí Gómez had the best performance, scoring 14,17 and also surfing the best wave of the day, an 8,5 that she achieved after combining several radical backside maneuvers. She left Esperanza Rojas in second place and Julissa Castillo from El Salvador in third.

Rachel Presti and young Chilean Estela López also stood out, surfing a 7,5 after executing a good series of backside maneuvers.

Among the female surprises, the Chilean standout Paloma Santos and the Mexicans Ana Laura González and Maya Larripa were seen falling.

The event will resume tomorrow from 8am.

The broadcast will continue live through www.alaslatintour.com
