After much salt water and waiting for new shoots of female surfing, Argentina is finally presenting itself as a flourishing land. With new talents, who without asking permission, but with a lot of education and dedication, jumped to the center of the scene to fight for whatever objective is on the horizon.

Ornella Pellizzari's influence was more than stimulating for a new generation of young ladies, who, far from following the well-known standards established by society, went for a surfboard and invented a story to write.

Among these new stories, Coco Cianciarulo's is one of the most interesting. At 14 years old, she managed to earn a place among the new Argentine juniors, and also made her name known abroad by winning the last date of the 2017 ALAS tour in Peru. So far in 2018 she has won two events in three different categories (M14, M16 and M18); while in the Open women's category she won the first stop of the Argentina Surf Tour and is fighting for the title.

Coco is the daughter of Flavio Cianciarulo, founding bassist of the Fabulosos Cadillacs, writer of several hymns sung throughout Latin America, skater and  surfer; a Mar del Plata native who, after living in Buenos Aires for a long time and always with the world as his next destination, decided to return to his roots and settle with his family in Chapadmalal, a location just a few minutes from Mar del Plata.

A new talent made in Argentina: Coco Cianciarulo. All photos except mentioned: Roxy/Bendahan

With excellent waves and a slow walk, Chapadmalal is one of the places where people take the time to say good morning, good afternoon and good night; and of course when there are waves, work can wait. Jenny, Coco's mom, is not going to let me lie about this statement.

With extensive training in skateboarding, Coco is a fast surfer, one of those who attacks the lip with determination. In competition she doesn't hesitate for a moment, showing a lot of skill in the matter of riding.

After a summer with very few waves, March is looking like a promising month, a wave of international events looms on the calendar and before she gets on a plane we take the time to talk to her, a girl who understood that surfing, beyond everything, is still fun.

What is it like to win three categories in a single event and on two occasions?
(Laughs) I don't know, you have to let yourself go, let yourself flow and surf and love the sea.  that gives us little waves. First of all; surfing and skateboarding for fun.

This year I understand that you are going to focus on the WQS, what is the plan and what dates are you aiming to go?
We are now heading to Peru because there is a QS date in San Bartolo, and then we are going to Ecuador to race three dates of the ALAS circuit. How nice, more fun!

The future and present of Argentine women's surfing: Coco with Ornella Pellizzari, an example to follow.

What things do you feel you have to improve in your surfing?
Everything is always a constant learning process,  Always learn. You have to listen to those who know and teach you.

What is your favorite song that your dad wrote?
(Laughs) You know (The Fabulous Cadillacs - The March of the Lonely Goal, 1999).

What are your favorite bands?
Cassock, Vision, LFC, 2 Minutes, Boom Boom Kid, Black Sabbath, Rancid, The Clash, Bujería, Sublime and many more.

The QS is coming up in Mar del Plata, how do you handle the anxiety of a big event at home?
I don't know (laughs). Learning, new experiences, surfing for fun is a priority and what I  we practice as a family.

What is life like in Chapadmalal?
Bea ...

What is the destination you would like to go to?
Mentawai.

Coco divides his time between the waves, the skate parks and the music that his whole family enjoys. And he has been flying for a long time now, this photo was taken a few years ago. Photo: Personal archive/Fer Mirabelli

What is it like to train with Martín Passeri?
Incredible. We always have a lot of fun in training, and at the same time there is a rigorous sporting work. Martín knows a lot and you have to listen to him.

Who is your surfing heroine?
Mmmm… all of them.

What book do you recommend reading?
Cursed School, by Gabriel Korendfeld

What is Surfing?
Pure unlimited fun, eternal skate, eternal surf.

What would you like to be when you grow up?
I'm 14 years old, there's still a long way to go. I hope destiny has something nice in store for me.

Let's suppose that the world's days are numbered and you have the possibility to protect only one thing and you have to choose between Surfing, Skateboarding or the very same  Black Sabbath... Who would you save?
To Black Sabbath, of course!

Taking out the fins, on the way to winning all the youth categories once again.
