The International Surfing Association has asked its member federations to send the long lists of their teams so that the athletes who will compete in the world championship in El Salvador and also the substitutes can be registered, it did so through a statement to which DUKE was able to access.

This list, new for the world championships since surfing became an Olympic sport, has no limit on the number of people and if someone wants to replace it with a name that is not on it, the country will be left with one less surfer for the upcoming grand event that will take place in La Bocana and El Sunzal between May 29 and June 6.

On the other hand, the list of substitutes for those already classified (nominated) and those provisionally classified was published.

As Ella Williams' first alternate, there is Sofia Mulanovich because of her world championship in Japan and that rule (reported here in 2019) which states: “If there is no available athlete from any of the continents finishing within the ISA quality control, the spot will be awarded to the next best ranked surfer, who is not yet qualified, regardless of the continent.”

Among other changes, Joan Duru and Leo Fioravanti, if they want to be substitutes, will have to justify the reason for having missed the ISA in Japan 2019. If they do not do so, Ricardo Christie will be substituted.

Filipe is the substitute for Medina and Italo, Slater is the substitute for John John and Kolohe, Freestone for Owen and Julian, Lakey and Nikki for the Americans and the Australians respectively and Paige Hareb for the rest.

Lele Usuna is substitute for Lucca Mesinas, Mimi Barona for Daniella Rosas, the Costa Rican and German Leon Glatzer is substitute for Frederico Morais (see full list below).

Moreover, on a minisite also released by the ISA (click here) It is reported that the maximum number of officials per team is six, with a full team consisting of 12 people (six surfers and six officials), regardless of their position. There may be six coaches or six managers.

In addition, the permanence between an athlete's bubble is deepened, as it is prohibited for them to mix (that is: A member of the United States team cannot approach a member of Brazil).

They also point out that smart bracelets (mentioned here), in addition to monitoring location, will provide data on the health of athletes.

Private transportation will not be allowed either, this will be provided by the organization free of charge.

The waves at El Zonte, El Sunzal and La Bocana will be closed to the public between May 24 and June 6 for training and the event. The ISA says it is considering giving training schedules to the teams.
