What better gift for a teenager than a day pass to Slater's pool? It's hard to think of anything better these days. That's what Basque Iker Amatriain received last Thursday when he and friends visited the Surf Ranch.

In the following paragraphs the young man tells every detail of one of the most special days of his life.

How would you sum up the day you just had?
It could easily be the best day of surfing of my life, although we couldn't catch many waves because there were so many of us.

How do you feel?
Well imagine how happy I was after doing 4-5 turns and a tube, or even two on each wave!

What did you do when you found out you were going to the Surf Ranch?
The truth is that I didn't react until we took the bus to go to the wave, it was like I couldn't believe it.

What can you tell us about the waves you surfed and how you experienced each one?
On every wave I focused on getting the best barrels possible, so I didn't take too many risks with the maneuvers. The right was: two turns, wait for the barrel, barrel, one turn, pump, barrel. And on the left you could do 5-6 turns during the wave and then the barrel at the end.

How was the best?
I honestly don't remember the best one, but it would be the wave with the longest tube that I ever did.

Was the aerial section that everyone has talked about so much already up and running?
No. The truth is that they didn't even tell us about that section. They gave us the same waves all day.

How much do you want to go back right now?
I would go back and spend a whole week surfing that wave alone (laughs).
