It seems that the judges listened to the Brazilian protest
And a clear comparison, on video, that supports what is said
On March 12th we talked about the “radical” change in the judging criteria that was noticeable in the WSL. With some great examples in Portugal, Italo flying through the air and receiving 4,33.
Jackson Baker's power surfing waves receive 6 points and aerial combos and other maneuvers receive more than 7, like the one at Rio Waida.
Nothing in the excellent.
They say that in life there are no coincidences, but perhaps there are, because the Brazilian protest takes place, Erik Logan is thrown out (who should have nothing to do with the judging and I foolishly trust that he didn't) and the excellent scores appear again in waves of an aerial.
But for me that incredible aerial is not so much the problem, but the comparison between Italo's 4,33 in Portugal and the one in Brazil of 8 points and then an almost identical one that in Portugal was worth 5 and in Brazil was worth 7.
We are not talking about tenths, we are talking about two points of difference on the scales.
We can say that in the first one Italo's landing was dirtier, but the air was much higher... And about the second one we can't really say much, they are really very similar, the only difference is the big difference in the scores.
Beach break surfing in both cases, deteriorated conditions in both cases.
And the contrast is in line surfing, in that same series Connor O'Leary, who beat Italo, received higher scores doing off the lips from backside. The same ones that in Brazil he never received more than eight points.
Has the judgment been changed again? It seems so.
Has it changed in favor of the Brazilians? It seems so.
