Italo and Filipe are also leaving the World Cup
"Looking ahead to the best scenario for the continuation of the athletes' season, the Brazilian surfing team said goodbye to the ISA World Surfing Games 2021," says the CBS statement.
Brazilian national team members Filipe Toledo and Italo Ferreira have also decided to withdraw from the world surfing championship being held in El Salvador, the Brazilian Surfing Confederation reported on its social networks.
Ferreira is tipped to compete in round 4 of the main event and Toledo in round 4 of the repechage.
Accompanied by a photo of the Brazilians with ISA President Fernando Aguerre, the statement reads: “Based on the team’s results last Tuesday and looking ahead to the best scenario for the continuation of the athletes’ season, the Brazilian surfing team said goodbye to the ISA World Surfing Games 2021 with four confirmed Olympic spots and with the certainty that everyone involved gave their all and did an excellent job in the face of the challenges encountered in and out of the water.”
Medina and Weston Webb had previously left the event, Ferreira told DUKE he didn't know what he was going to do but Toledo confirmed he was staying.
Brisa Hennessy, Carissa Moore and Caroline Marks also took part in the audition.
